Dual Language Program: will it be threatened by gentrification?

P.S.20 in the Lower East Side is one of the public schools in NYC that provides dual-language program, which allows its students to receive education on two different languages. It benefits both immigrant and non-immigrant children in a way that the former can learn things in their mother-tongue while improving their English, and the latter can get exposed to a totally new language. But with the gentrification going on rapidly, the school is now having trouble recruiting immigrant students. If the ratio cannot be maintained, the program would no longer be held.

Waters May Depart

The Xinanjiang Dam was built in the 1960s at the price that over 300,000 local people lost their home. The electricity it generating is no longer prominent by today’s standard. But the reservoir upstream is coveted by people in the big city like Shanghai and Hangzhou whose water resource is polluted.
